Welcome to the DWI Regulation 31 section

Protection of public health of consumers through safeguarding the quality of drinking water is a key aspect of the drinking water quality regulatory framework.

Regulation 31 ensures that water suppliers, when producing and distributing drinking water, only use products and substances to that do not cause any detrimental effects on the safety or quality of the drinking water. 

These pages explain in more detail the approval system in place, how manufacturers can apply for product approval and some commonly asked questions that you may have on regulation 31 issues. Please note that as from 6th April 2011, the approval process under Regulation 31(4)(a) will be subject to charges.
